Online job search has a structural problem. The largest job boards are paid by employers to promote their listings, so what candidates see is shaped by advertising spend rather than by relevance. As HiringCafe co-founder Hamed Nilforoshan puts it, legacy platforms “operate on an advertising model, not a true search model.” Many genuine openings appear only on company career pages, while job seekers are left sorting through outdated, duplicated or fictitious listings.
HiringCafe approaches the problem as a search company. It indexes positions directly from employers’ career pages, removes stale and so-called ghost listings, and uses AI to match candidates with relevant roles. Its recently launched AI Talent Agent, free to use, analyses a candidate’s résumé, recommends suitable positions and continuously monitors the index for new openings.
The company began in 2022, when co-founder Ali Mir compiled a list of 10,000 hard-to-find startup roles for friends affected by layoffs. Demand for the list grew quickly, and Hamed paused his PhD at Stanford to build the product with him.
HiringCafe is founded by Ali Mir and Hamed Nilforoshan. Ali is a self-taught engineer who led product launches at Meta, DoorDash and Rippling. Hamed completed his PhD at the Stanford AI Lab, where he was first author of a paper published in Nature and received an ICML Best Paper Award. Together, they combine deep engineering and research expertise with a clear focus on the people the product serves.
Their ambition is to make every job on earth searchable and to match it with the right candidate.
